Sheraton on the Park – Hotel Review

The Sheraton on the Park is a luxury hotel located in the heart of Sydney. The 5 star property has 557 rooms, with 48 of them being luxurious suites.

Sheraton on the Park

Location

The Sheraton on the Park, as its name implies, overlooks the lush Hyde Park. The central location is ideal for both tourists and business travellers with Town Hall Station only 5 minutes away by foot. Tourist attractions such as the QVB, Pitt Street Mall and the Australian Museum are also a short stroll from the hotel. For convenience, the hotel has entrances on both Elizabeth and Castlereagh Street.

Room

The Executive Park View Room (1531) that I stayed in was on level 15 and provided a commanding view of Sydney. The room was very generous at 40 square metres and featured a Sheraton Sweet Sleeper bed, a wide writing desk, minibar, compact TV, an arm chair and a particularly large black marble bathroom.

The bathroom was absolutely stunning. I love how spacious it was and the clever use of mirrors and black marble made it seem even bigger. The bathtub and shower were a delight to use. The amenities in the bathroom were Sheraton branded. I found it slightly odd that toothbrushes and slippers were not placed along with the other amenities, guests have to call up room services to receive them.

Opposite the bathroom, sits the walk in closet, where you’ll find the safe, hair dryer, iron and Sheraton embroidered bath robes.

The mini bar was adequately stocked with a range of drinks. There was no complimentary bottle of water that you would normally expect from a luxury hotel but the usual tea and coffee making facilities were there.

Facilities

The 5 star luxury hotel has an indoor rooftop pool, a 24 hour fitness center and a business center for all guests to use. The 13 square metre pool is open 7 days a week from 6am to 9pm, with poolside dining available until 9pm if you’re feeling peckish after a swim. If you’re like me and prefer relaxing over swimming laps, then the jacuzzi is perfect for a good soak. I was pleasantly surprised to find a traditional Swedish sauna and a steam room next to the change facilities. The best feature of the pool however is the outdoor balcony that offers sweeping views of the city, I could definitely picture myself lying down on the loungers and soaking in the sun in summer.

For those who exercise, Sheraton on the Park has you covered with their 24 hour fitness center. It is fully stocked with free weights, treadmills, rowing machines, bikes and step machines, you can even hire a qualified personal trainer for a fee. The gym equipment seemed modern and clean, not that I tried any of them cause we all know the only exercise I do is running out of money (being a food blogger is expensive).

The business center, located on the lobby level, offers a private area to get some work done or check up on your Instagram page. There’s complimentary Wi-Fi through out the lobby and several desktop terminals if you don’t have your laptop with you. I spent 2 hours churning through my emails at the business center before I could check in, the quietness of the area was rather work inducing.

Club

As I was staying in the Executive Park View Room, I was granted access to the Sheraton Club Lounge. This was my first time in any hotel club lounge and it was amazing! The Sheraton Club Lounge is on level 21 and has incredible views of Hyde Park and the Sydney skyline. More importantly, there’s complimentary breakfast in the mornings and canapés at night. You can also check in and check out within the lounge if you want to avoid the lobby desk. The canapés are available from 5pm to 7:30pm and could easily serve as dinner since there’s a decent selection of items including oysters, dumplings and even desserts. The continental breakfast was served buffet style with a range of coffee, tea and juices. It was quite magical eating my breakfast while enjoying a panoramic view of a sun drenched Sydney.

Food

Guests at the Sheraton on the Park can indulge in the seafood buffet at Feast (check out my review of the buffet here), satisfy their sweet tooth at The Gallery with some High Tea or savour some snacks at the Conservatory Bar. I had a quick browse of the in room dining menu and it was expansive covering all three meals of the day.

I was invited to try the Afternoon Tea Buffet, that’s right the Sheraton on the Park serves afternoon tea buffet style. I went all in and stuffed myself silly on cakes, macarons, pastries and sweets and sandwiches. I didn’t managed to get to the scones, cheeses or fruits since I was incapacitated by my sugar coma.

Service

Check in and check out was smooth and easy. It should be noted that there’s no early check in at the Sheraton on the Park (check in is at 3pm) but you can leave your luggage if you arrive early. On the whole, the staff were professional and pleasant. Compliments to the waiter and manager at The Gallery, who were both exceptionally attentive.

Small details

The 30 pin to lightning adapter on the clock/media player was a nice touch since most guests wouldn’t be carrying around old school iPods or iPhones.

Verdict

My stay at the Sheraton on the Park was certainly a memorable experience. The elegant Executive Hyde Park View room is perfect for celebrating a special occasion, especially when you have can see striking vistas from the Sheraton Club lounge.

This review was based on an complimentary stay.
