Melbourne’s much loved donut shop, Shortstop has a new home in Barangaroo.
Food
Shortstop has definitely pulled out all the stops when it comes to donuts. Every single donut is made on site, using some of Australia’s best ingredients like Pepe Saya butter and flour from South Australia’s Laucke Flour Mills. Flavours range from the typical, like Vanilla Bean, to the more unconventional such as the Whiskey Maple Bacon.

My top pick is the Australian Honey and Sea Salt cruller, it’s crispy on the outside and airy on the inside. The honey and milk glaze pairs incredibly well with the fine flakes of sea salt. I was so satisfied with this donut, I ordered an extra one despite having two boxes of donuts to takeaway!

The Earl Grey and Rose donut is a must for tea lovers. This donut is made from a cake batter that’s mixed with Earl Grey tea and lemon myrtle. It’s then dipped in rose water before being topped with rose petal icing.

Another popular donut is the Triple Matcha, which starts with a matcha cake donut base, followed by a white chocolate + matcha glaze and is finished with matcha icing stripes. You could say it tastes tea-rrific!

Drinks
As the shop name implies, coffee is the drink of choice at Shortstop. There’s the usual black, white and cold brew on the menu but what really caught by attention was the $1 refill and the sidecar. If you’re wondering what a sidecar is, it’s essentially an espresso and a macchiato served side by side. I decided to stick to my usual order of a flat white, which was generous in size and well made.

Service
Service was standard and normal. However, I did have to repeat my order several times as the staff struggled to memorise all 12 donuts I ordered.
Atmosphere
The modern store fit out is by Foolscap Studio’s Adele Winteridge, whose last project just so happens to be Noma Australia. With both indoor and outdoor seating available, guests can sit down and slowly savour the donuts. An open plan kitchen allows guests front row seats to the donut production.

Verdict
Shortstop Donuts has certainly raised the bar for donuts in Sydney and are without a doubt my favourite donut shop in Sydney. Being located in Barangaroo may be inconvenient but you do-nut want to miss out!
