Park Hyatt Melbourne – Hotel Review

The Park Hyatt Melbourne is a luxurious sanctuary where guests can forget the hustle and bustle of the city.

Location

I love the location of the Park Hyatt Melbourne as it’s tucked away from the CBD but still accessible on foot or via tram. Also within walking distance are the hipster suburbs of Fitzroy and Collingwood, where many cult cafes and restaurants reside. As the hotel is set back from any main roads, there was no noise pollution.

Room

My allocated room, the King with Spa Deluxe, had opulent interiors but was fully equipped with modern necessities including plenty of USB/power outlets, a Nespresso coffee machine, a travel adapter and a Bose Bluetooth speaker. The room was incredibly spacious at 60 square metres allowing for a separate lounge area, a writing desk and a walk in closet.

The highlight of the room was definitely the stunning marble bathroom which featured a double vanity, shower and a jetted spa tub with a TV. There was a generous array of bathroom amenities including soft bath robes, toiletries from Le Labo (high end NYC perfume brand) and slippers.

Park Hyatt’s trademark attention to detail was evident even in the toiletries with the inclusion of mouthwash and bath salts.

Nestled under the flat screen TV, was one of the most comprehensive mini bars I’ve seen with over 30 items including 9 different types of alcohol and 8 kinds of snacks.

Facilities

As a 5 star hotel, the Park Hyatt Melbourne has the usual facilities including an indoor pool, 24 hour gym, an onsite spa and an outdoor tennis court.

Guests travelling for work will find the Business Centre handy as it’s open 24 hours and features two iMacs and two printers. Complimentary Wi-Fi can be accessed throughout the hotel and was quite speedy when I was using it in my room.

I know it’s technically not a hotel facility but the Park Hyatt Melbourne has a canine ambassador named Mr Walker. He’s been trained by Guide Dogs Victoria and can be found right outside the lobby. Guests are encouraged to take photos and pat him!

Club Lounge

Located high on the 19th floor, the Park Lounge provides a private space for guests to unwind and relax. Thanks to the floor to ceiling windows and ample seating, the lounge never feels crowded even during peak times. Throughout the day guests can help themselves to coffee, tea, soft drinks and cookies. In the evening canapes and alcohol are on offer. Breakfast is actually not served in the lounge except on Sundays, on the other days guests can head down to the hotel restaurant, Radii, for a complimentary continental breakfast.

During my stay, I only visited during breakfast but was very impressed by the extensive offering and attentive service from the staff.

Unsurprisingly, the lounge was crowned as the Hotel Club Lounge of the Year in 2017 by Tourism Accommodation Australia as evidenced by the award that is proudly displayed above the buffet.

Food

As my stay was booked with AMEX fine hotels and resorts, I was entitled to a $120 dining credit and daily continental breakfast for two. I ended up paying an extra $8 per person in order to experience the full breakfast buffet which is held in the hotel restaurant – Radii. The buffet is quite compact but does have the usual breakfast favorites such as poached eggs, cereals, toast and fruit.

I decided to have room service for dinner on the first night of my stay and thanks to the dining credit I ordered two mains (Angus steak, wok fried noodles) and two sides (fries, bok choy) for two people.

Normally, I don’t have high expectations of room service, especially when it comes to steak, but I was pleasantly surprised as my steak was cooked exactly medium rare. The fried noodles, steamed bok choy and fries were also cooked perfectly.

Service

As I had arrived early in the morning, my room wasn’t ready at check in but the hotel staff arranged for club access and promised to contact me later. A very thoughtful and appreciated gesture, particularly when other hotels would have just apologized.

I was really impressed by the friendly but unobtrusive service from every staff member I encountered whether it was the doorman to the F&B attendants delivering room service.

Small Details

I had informed the hotel that I was celebrating my birthday during my stay and the staff went above and beyond, surprising me with a birthday cake, chocolate covered macadamias and a bottle of sparkling wine! In addition, I was gifted the Monocle Travel Guide to Melbourne along with a hand written card.

Verdict

Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just having a weekend getaway, the Park Hyatt Melbourne will provide a memorable and relaxing stay. It’s unique location, elegant rooms and attentive staff makes it my favourite hotel in Melbourne, I can’t wait to be back!
