Previously known as the Sheraton on the Park, the Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park hotel underwent a $50 million renovation that saw the overhaul of its guests rooms, suites, club lounge and meeting facilities.
Name
Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park
Location
Overlooking the lush Hyde Park, the hotel is ideal for both tourists and business travellers, with Town Hall Station only 5 minutes away by foot. Tourist attractions such as the QVB, Pitt Street Mall and the Australian Museum are also a short stroll away. For convenience, the hotel has entrances on both Elizabeth and Castlereagh Street.

Room
I was informed at check in that I had been upgraded to the Grand Executive Park View Room on level 12, which came with club lounge access. The room was very generous at 40 square metres and featured a comfortable king size bed, a wide writing desk, minibar, LCD TV, a chaise lounge and a large black marble bathroom. Two large windows provided unobstructed views of Hyde Park and helped brighten the sleek, modern décor.

The bathroom was spacious and had both a bathtub and a shower. Amenities in the bathroom were from Sheraton’s own brand – Le Grand Bain, the Citron + Vetiver notes were pleasant and not too strong.

Opposite the bathroom, was the walk in closet, where you’ll find the safe, hair dryer, iron and Sheraton embroidered bath robes.
The mini bar was well stocked with a range of drinks (including those cute mini bottles of spirits) and snacks. Guests are provided with two small complimentary bottles of water along with the usual tea and coffee making facilities.

Facilities
The 5 star luxury hotel has an indoor rooftop pool, a 24 hour fitness center and a business center for all guests to use. The 13 square metre pool is open 7 days a week from 6am to 9pm, with poolside dining available until 9pm if you’re feeling peckish after a swim. If you’re like me and prefer relaxing over swimming laps, then the jacuzzi is perfect for a good soak. I was pleasantly surprised to find a traditional Swedish sauna and a steam room next to the change facilities. The best feature of the pool however is the outdoor balcony that offers sweeping views of the city, I could definitely picture myself lying down on the loungers and soaking in the sun in summer.

For those who exercise, Sheraton on the Park has you covered with their 24 hour fitness center. It is fully stocked with free weights, treadmills, rowing machines, bikes and step machines, you can even hire a qualified personal trainer for a fee. The gym equipment seemed modern and clean, not that I tried any of them cause we all know the only exercise I do is running out of money (being a food blogger is expensive).

Club
The Sheraton Club Lounge is on level 21 and has sweeping views of Hyde Park and the Sydney skyline. More importantly, there’s complimentary breakfast in the mornings and canapés at night. The canapés are available from 5pm to 7:30pm and could easily serve as dinner since there’s a decent selection of items including oysters, dumplings and even desserts. The continental breakfast was served buffet style with a range of coffee, tea and juices.

You can also check in and check out within the lounge if you want to avoid the lobby desk.

Food
Guests at the Sheraton on the Park can indulge in the seafood buffet at Feast (check out my review of the buffet here), satisfy their sweet tooth at The Gallery with some High Tea or savour some snacks at the Conservatory Bar. I had a quick browse of the in room dining menu and it was expansive covering all three meals of the day.
I was invited to try the Afternoon Tea Buffet, that’s right the Sheraton on the Park serves afternoon tea buffet style. I went all in and stuffed myself silly on cakes, macarons, pastries and sweets and sandwiches. I didn’t managed to get to the scones, cheeses or fruits since I was incapacitated by my sugar coma.

Service
Check in was smooth and my gold Marriott status was recognized and appreciated. A slight issue I had was my key card not being accepted by the card reader outside the club lounge, after enquiring with the front desk it was quickly rectified with a sincere apology no less.
Small details
Having USB and power outlets on both sides of the bed was smart design choice.
Verdict
My stay at the Sheraton Grand Sydney was comfortable and relaxing. The updated rooms and club lounge have helped bring a touch of luxury to the hotel.
