Hotel Review: W San Francisco – San Francisco

W San Francisco
Fun isn’t how one normally describes a hotel. But the W San Francisco is fun.

The vibrant hotel, located in the SoMa district, has all the modern facilities of a hotel with a dash of cheekiness. During winter, the lobby has free hot chocolate set up and in the mornings you can grab an apple before you head to explore The City.

Don’t be alarmed by their quirky room names such as Wonderful or Fantastic. Our Spectacular King Room set us back $927.11 for 4 nights, this includes both a 14% occupancy tax and a 2.53% city tax. The vibrant blue walls contrast with the light and dark wooden furnishings. In room WiFi or wired internet access costs US$14.95 a day, however if you book through Starwood websites and sign up to SPG membership you can get internet for free.

There’s also a banquette nestled under the shutters, perfect for people and city watching. I’m not quite sure why there was a heavy block of wood (pictured above) on the blue cushions though.

W Hotels add a little bit of humour with self aware key cards, which are very user friendly.

The mini fridge is well stocked and but prices are expensive. If you don’t want to burn a hole in your wallet, there’s a bottle shop a block away for your alcohol needs!

The bathroom is spacious and has a decently sized bath tub, perfect for a hot soak after a day out and about. Toiletries are from Bliss, who also operate a spa in the hotel if you wish to be pampered. The W branded bathrobe is a nice touch however there was only one.

There was a slight hiccup with the number of towels that were replaced by housekeeping on three occasions. We were short one each time, I’m all for going green but I need my towels.

The bed comfortably sleeps two and there’s even a pillow menu for guests. There’s a small table and lamp on both sides of the bed.

I booked the 4 night stay using, which was a smooth process and didn’t encounter any issues. Head to their site here to book the W San Francisco with them.

Last year, Uber announced a partnership with SPG, so make sure you link the two accounts to earn Starpoints. If you don’t have Uber yet, sign up with my link here to get a free ride! (I’ll get some credit if you sign up with my link, so I scratch your back and Uber scratches my back).

This post was based on an independently paid stay.

You know I’ve never stayed in a W hotel. I wonder why since I love fun hotels. The room looks nice although a little cosy.
