Review: Cathay Pacific The Pier Business Class Lounge, Hong Kong

Cathay Pacific’s The Pier Business Lounge at Hong Kong International Airport is known as one of the best Business Class lounges in the world. After my recent visit, I whole heartedly agree.

Name

The Cathay Pacific The Pier Business Class Lounge.

Location of the Cathay Pacific’s The Pier Business Class Lounge

The Pier is located near gate 65 at Terminal 1 of Hong Kong International Airport. Once you find the sign (pictured below), head down the escalators and you will be warmly greeted by Cathay Pacific staff.

Due to the sheer size of Terminal 1, it can take you 15 to 20 minutes to walk from security. Alternatively, you can hop on to the Automated People Mover which cuts the trip to a few minutes.

During my visit in April 2024, the lounge was open from 05:30 – 00:30, daily.

Lounge layout and seating of Cathay Pacific’s The Pier Business Class Lounge

As a flagship lounge in it’s home hub, it’s unsurprising that The Pier Business Class Lounge is expansive and elegantly styled. Each area is distinct but blends seamlessly, allowing passengers to leisurely traverse the lengthy lounge.

After your past the reception area, the first area you will encounter is the buffet food hall, which predominately features Western options such as pizza and pasta. Seating ranges from wooden tables to plush sofas.

The second area is a sleek, well stocked bar. There’s a decent selection of beverages that the staff can whip up for you.

The third area is the ever popular noodle bar that serves up made to order noodle and rice dishes. Again, there are plenty of seating choices ranging from banquettes to quiet nooks for passengers.

The fourth area is the refined teahouse, where passengers can enjoy made to order tea. There’s also fresh juice and sweets on offer.

And lastly, we have the quiet, serene relaxation area that is dimly lit and have comfortable daybeds -perfect for those wanting to rest their weary eyes.

Food and beverage in Cathay Pacific The Pier Business Class Lounge

Travellers are spoilt for choice when it comes to food at The Pier Business Lounge. The first option is the food hall which has a solid spread of Western dishes including appetisers, pizza, pasta, soups, and more. There was also a coffee cart but as I was visiting at night, I didn’t see it in action.

The second and much wiser option is the noodle bar, where travellers can have made to order Chinese dishes including Cathay Pacific’s famous wonton noodles. Check out the full menu in the photo below.

The ordering process is simple and efficient, place your order at the counter and you’ll be handed a buzzer.

To the side of the noodle bar, there were several chafing dishes and steamers for guests who wanted to self serve.

The gorgeous bar has a solid beverage and wine list including wine, beer, spirits, cocktails, coffee, tea, and non alcoholic cocktails. I ordered one of Cathay’s signature drinks – the Cathay Delight. The mocktail is a refreshing concoction of milk, coconut milk, kiwi juice, and mint.

Scattered throughout the lounge were beverage fridges that were well stocked with soft drinks, beer, and even chilled glasses.

My order at the noodle bar consisted of wonton noodles and rice with barbeque pork/roasted crispy pork. Both dishes were flavourful and the perfect way to start my feast at the lounge.

After finishing my dishes, I paid a visit to the teahouse. Their loose tea menu was created in partnership with JING and features 9 different flavours. I ended up trying both the Pu-erh and Lemongrass, which were both carefully prepared by the Cathay staff. There were also several sweets, including egg tarts, on display – the perfect accompaniment to the tea.

I couldn’t resist ordering one last Hong Kong style milk tea to go along with the sweets I had picked.

The sleek, modern feel also extended to the showers, which were fully kitted out with Bamford toiletries. Having a hot, relaxing rain shower before my red eye flight in Economy was a godsend.
