Harbourside Buffet at Intercontinental Hong Kong

Harbourside Buffet

A lobster tower, foie gras station and an endless array of desserts are some of the reasons why Harbourside Buffet is my favourite all you can eat restaurant in the world.

Food

Let’s start with the crown jewel of the restaurant – the three tiered lobster tower. Each lobster is split perfectly in half while the claws have been cracked and are placed neatly below.

Once you’ve gorged yourself with several lobsters, you can feast on even more seafood, which includes crabs, prawns, mussels and even crayfish.

I almost always avoid the sushi section at buffets because the rolls and nigiri are poorly made and look miserable. Fortunately for me, Harbourside Buffet has incredibly fresh sushi that look and taste delicious.

If for some inexplicable reason you want to eat salad at a buffet, there’s an diverse mix to choose from as well as the ability to make your own.

Carnivores are also taken care of at the buffet several meat dishes including a juicy slab of roast beef that’s carved right in front of you. Right next to the carving section, there’s a foie gras station, where the chef sears the generous piece of foie gras before serving it to you.

As you walk by the dessert section at Harbouside Buffet you’ll find pretty much every dessert under the sun including cakes, biscuits, pastries, ice cream, a chocolate fountain and even egg tarts. I managed to do a quick count and there was at over 30 sweet dishes to pick from!

Drinks

At Harbourside Buffet, you can pick from the usual soft drinks and juices but during Sunday brunch service there’s free flowing champagne, wine and beer! After my meal, I was pleasantly surprised by the waiter who offered a variety of teas to finish my superb meal.

Service

Waiters at buffets are usually overwhelmed by having to constantly clear plates for several tables, as a result service usually suffers. But this is certainly not the true at Harbourside Buffet, in fact the service was commendable. I was made to feel welcomed and I never returned to used plates on my table!

Atmosphere

Unlike your typical buffet restaurant, where it’s usually dim and moody, Harbourside is drenched in light thanks to it’s prime location inside the InterContinental Hong Kong. Floor to ceiling windows line the restaurant providing guests with a panoramic view of Hong Kong harbour. Wooden paneling combined with some foliage helps produce a warm and comfortable environment to dine in.

Verdict

It’s rare to find a buffet that serves high quality produce, has a wide variety of dishes and provides friendly service. But Harbourside Buffet has managed to do exactly that, which is why it is hands down my favourite buffet in the world.

This review was based on an complimentary meal.

Such a delicious description you’ve written here & I’ve been looking for a new buffet to try, next time I’m in HK. There’s Le Meridien in Shanghai that had a delicious brunch with free flowing champagne & foie gras too, also delicious!
