There’s plenty of food options along the Santa Monica Pier but the smoky smell of hot dogs roasting lured me to Japadog.

Food
There’s only hot dogs on the menu but with over a dozen flavours, there’s something for everyone (even vegetarians)! I went with the signature hot dog at Japadog, the Kurobuta Terimayo. The sausage is made from the prized Berkshire/Kurobuta pig and topped with seaweed, teriyaki sauce and mayo (hence, the name Terimayo). With every bite I took, the hot dog would release a juicy burst of flavour (promptly followed by my muffled moan of pleasure). The sweet teriyaki/mayo combination helps cut through the rich umami taste of the dog, while the grilled onion and seaweed provide a layer of crunch.

Drink
You can wash down your mouth watering hot dog with icy cold Coca Cola, Canada Dry, Ramune, Calpis, green tea or water.
Service
There’s only two staff attending the cart which makes for a small queue and roughly a 10 minute wait.
Atmosphere
Who needs fine dining, when you’ve got million dollar views of Santa Monica beach while you wait for your Japadog.

Verdict
Head to Japadog if you want a sensual snack sensation.
