8bit. – Melbourne

8bit. burgers

8bit. is the perfect CBD pitstop for some of Melbourne’s finest burgers and smoothest milkshakes.

8bit. keeps it simple with a total 6 burgers to choose from, although there’s plenty of add ons to help you customise your ideal burger. I went with the classic 8bit with Cheese which has beef, tomato lettuce, red onion, pickles, mustard, cheese, ketchup and 8bit Sauce. No gimmicks or anything fancy, just a solid burger that fills you up and leaves you with a smile. For those with a bigger appetite, I’d recommend the Double Dragon, which as you may have guessed has double the beef, double the cheese and two serves of bacon.

Vegetarians are also catered for at 8bit. with the 1UP Mushroom Burger. Guests who are gluten intolerant can pick the gluten free option for an additional cost.

Sides served at 8bit. include your typical Beer Battered Fries, Crispy Onion Fries and Potato Gems. There’s also more glutinous options including Cheese & Bacon Fries, Chilli Cheese Fries and Loaded. With the Loaded, you can pick a base of either the fries or potato gems and then a delicious, hot mess of chilli beef, cheese sauce, bacon, pickle relish, grilled onions, jalapeños, salsa and spring onions is topped on to it.

Peanut Butter Milkshake

Peanut Butter Milkshake

We all know milkshakes pair perfectly with burgers and at 8bit. there’s a choice of 4 milkshakes (Peanut Butter, Salted Caramel, Chocolate Bar and Strawberry Cheesecake) and a special weekly flavour. I went with my usual peanut butter, the milkshake was incredibly rich and thick but still smooth enough to sip through the straw.

Ordering is a breeze. Since I was dining in, I grabbed a seat and placed my table number next to me. Roughly 10 minutes later, my meal was delivered by a friendly server. Simple, efficient service.

I love how the retro gaming theme extends beyond the menu and into the decor. As you sit in the bright and clean restaurant, you’ll notice the colourful wallpaper that is adorned with Tetris pieces and Mario background.

Melbourne may be known for brunches and cafes but 8bit. certainly proves that quality burgers are here to stay.

This review was based on an independently paid for meal.

8bit no longer operates on Swanston St, but they still operate at their Footscray/Seddon location. Glad to hear you enjoyed yourself when you came down to Melb!
