Established in 1862, Cafe du Monde is a New Orleans icon that’s open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Food
There’s only one thing on the menu at Cafe du Monde – beignets. These delicious pastries are generously coated with powdered sugar. The outside of the beignet is fried to perfection while the inside is still pillowy soft. Be careful of the sugar cause it will end up everywhere!
A single serve comes with 3 freshly made beignets.
Drinks

Cafe au Lait
For the most authentic experience, order the cafe au lait. The coffee here is blended with grounded chicory root which adds a subtle nutty flavour. Alternatively, the frozen cafe au lait is perfect for cooling down in the southern heat.
You can also get your coffee served in souvenir mug which you can take home.
Service
It’s very much a no frills affair at Cafe du Monde. Sit down, order and eat. Don’t be fooled by the bow ties and paper waiter caps, the servers are very direct and straight forward. Make sure you have cash on hand as you will need to pay at your seats.
Atmosphere
Customers can choose between al fresco and indoor seating. The plantation ceiling fans combined with the signature green and white awnings makes the outside dining area the more popular option.
Verdict
Eating beignets at Cafe du Monde is a quintessential New Orleans tradition, so make sure you don’t miss out! Avoid the crowds in the morning by going in the afternoon or at night.
