The menu at Cafe Sopra is unlike any menu you’ve seen. It’s a massive blackboard around 3 metres tall and 2 metres wide. L & I took turns to stare at the blackboard and go through the expansive menu on offer. We both felt like pasta. I went with the Spaghetti Carbonara while L picked the Fettuccine Bolognese with Meatballs.
My Spaghetti Carbonara was a delightful dish that was rich but not too creamy. The black pepper and speck provided little bursts of flavour. You could tell the Carbonara sauce was made old school with only eggs. The spaghetti was cooked just al dente, not too soft and not too hard.
Usually meatballs in pasta are bite sized but at Cafe Sopra you get three giant meatballs! Despite their size, the meatballs were cooked wonderfully, tender and juicy inside. The fettuccine was cooked perfectly and the Bolognese sauce was fresh and the right consistency.
For dessert, we were spoilt for options as Cafe Sopra has around 7 different items. L & I decided to go with the Lemon Tart with Almond Slivers and Vanilla Ice Cream. The tart was not overly sweet. The ice cream was smooth and creamy, while the almond slivers provide a nice add of crunch to the dish.
Will I Return?
Yes! Fresh Italian dishes at a reasonable price.
