Ippudo – Sydney CBD

Ippudo ramen needs no introduction. I decided to pop in for a quick lunch last Monday. When I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised that the usual lunch time queue was not there! After being welcomed by the synchronized Japanese welcome of Irasshaimase, I quickly browsed through the menu and decided on a bowl of Akamaru Chashu and a Pork Bun.
While I was waiting, I was mesmerised by the kitchen staff as I peered through the glass. The powerful swinging of the colanders was followed up by the precise placing of the garnishes. In a matter of minutes, my ramen was created. And in a matter of minutes, I slurped it all up.
Akamaru Chashu $21

Just look at that gorgeous bowl of ramen. Each ingredient is beautifully placed. The Akamaru Chashu starts with a flavoursome tonkatsu broth as the base. The rest of the ingredients consist of simmered pork belly, black mushrooms, thin noodles, shallots and special miso paste. For me, good ramen is all about the balance. The noodles, the toppings and the soup should combine to become a cohesive dish. No single ingredient should over power the other. At Ippudo, they have mastered this balance.

Ippudo Pork Bun $4

Having seen the pork bun on Instagram and other blogs, I decided to try it. It was good but not like salivating amazeballs. Next time I’ll probably just stick to ramen exclusively.

Will I Return?
Yes. Ippudo has got the ramen game in Sydney locked down.

When I went to Ippudo they weren't serving the buns unfortunately but the ramen was amazing!
