If you’ve dreamed of having Breakfast at Tiffany’s, you now can at The Blue Box Cafe located in the flagship Tiffany store in NYC.

Having perused the menu online already, I was set on getting the Tiffany tea which comes with a 3 tiered high tea set and a pot of tea.

Starting from the bottom, we have a mix of savoury and sweet scones served with sour cherry-cranberry jam, clotted cream and honey. The scones were rather flat, looking and tasting more like southern biscuits.

On the second plate, were 4 kinds of finger sandwiches:

  • Herbed chicken salad
  • Smoked salmon with cream cheese
  • Cucumber with goat cheese
  • Asparagus with romesco

The sandwiches tasted fine but serving them open faced (essentially one finger sandwich between two), was a bit stingy especially when guests are paying $52 per person.

And finally the pièce de résistance, the dessert plate featured the following made for Instagram sweet delights:

  • Tiffany Birds Nest
  • Blue Box Petite Four
  • Coconut Brownie
  • Key Lime Tart
  • Chocolate Ingot
  • Lemon Jelly Diamond

Unfortunately, the desserts were more style than substance, with most overly sweet for my palate.

Tea served at The Blue Box Cafe is provided by Bellocq, a boutique “tea atelier” based in nearby Brooklyn. I went with the most obvious choice no. 727, Tiffany Tea, a custom blend created exclusively for the cafe and Tiffany stores.

Wine, mocktails and coffee are also available on the menu.

When we arrived for our 12 pm reservation, our table wasn’t ready and were directed to come back in 5 minutes. Unfortunately, our table was still occupied when we returned so had to wait another 10 minutes.

Waitstaff were okay but lacking when compared to the sales professionals in the actual Tiffany store. I don’t think it too unreasonable to expect the trademark custom service to extend from the shop floor to the cafe.

The cafe is laid out in a square and true to its name, it is very blue. Everything from the menu to the salt and pepper shakers are marked with the trademark Tiffany blue. Tables along the wall are arranged for two, while larger groups are accommodated by circular tables in the middle.

Thanks to several large sash windows, there’s plenty of natural light which is perfect capturing your meal to share on social media.
