When a foodie goes to Paris, it’s a sure bet he or she will end up at a Laduree store. I went to 2 stores and ate a total of 14 macarons. It was amazing. The 1st store I visited was the branch located in the shopping complex located under the Louvre, the Carrousel du Louvre. At first, I wasn’t going to buy any but then I saw the price of each macaron… 1.90 Euros! I did a quick conversion on my phone and realised that it would cost me only $2.76 Australian dollars. Say what!? So I prompted lined up and bought the following flavours: Pistachio, Apple Crumble, Hazelnut Dessert, Coffee, Chocolate and Orange Blossom.
Every macaron was light, delicate but packed with flavour. My favourite out of the six that day would have to be the Apple Crumble, it was like eating an entire apple crumble in a single bite.
After my devouring those 6 macarons, I thought that was it for this trip but the Laduree store at Charles De Gaulle Airport was calling out to me. So I bought another 8, this time the kind shop attendant not only threw in a free box for me but she also gave me the tax free price of 1.80 Euros! Since my next destination was London, I was not eligible for duty free prices at the airport.
The 8 flavours I tried were: Pineapple, Rum Vanilla, Salted Caramel, Pure Origin Chocolate from Grenada, Chestnut, Raspberry, Blackcurrant Violet and Gingerbread. So there I was waiting for my flight while knocking back one macaron after another. It was a fabulously self indulgent experience.
